This course allows learners to further their skills and knowledge in using Excel spreadsheets, You will learn to use the most commonly used Microsoft Office software as well as to prepare to carry out simple or routine ICT tasks. The purpose of this course is to teach learners to identify spreadsheet terminology and concepts; create formulas and functions; use formatting features; and generate charts/graphs. Use PowerPoint to create presentation slides to help learners who need to do presentation in interviews and learners will learn the skills needed to Create a CV and covering letter using Word, uploading CV's to jobsite using the Internet.

Course aim

This course is intended to help you develop further skills in using Microsoft Excel, introducing PowerPoint for presentation and Word to Create CV and covering letter Internet to register on jobsearch sites.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course
  • This course is open to Unison members only

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use formulas in Excel, sum, absolute, IF statements
  • Create several graphs
  • PowerPoint for presentation
  • Create CV and covering letter using Word
  • Upload documents onto jobsites

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • It would be useful if you can bring along a folder to store your work files and pen for taking notes.
