Experienced learners will: • Learn how to make a tunic dress with darts, a v-shaped neckline and side-slits • Learn how to make a pair of harem trousers with pockets • Develop their pattern cutting skills and gain a better understanding of how patterns can be adjusted to fit their body shape Advanced learners will: • Learn how to create their own stretch dress block based on their own body measurements and make a toil • Learn how to use their dress block to draft a pattern based on a simple design of their own choice and make a toil of their garment

Course aim

The course is for learners who have prior sewing experience and would like to further develop their garment construction and pattern cutting skills.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for experienced learners only. This course is for people with good level of spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use the appropriate tools and a range of equipment to produce garments
  • Produce a selection of garments for themselves using both stretch and non-stretch fabric
  • Build upon their existing pattern cutting and manipulation skills
  • Create their own dress block based on their own body measurements
  • Further develop their pattern cutting skills by drafting a pattern based on a garment of their own design using their own dress block

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • The workshops will allow you to develop your skills and complete activities at your own paste but there will be ongoing assessment and feedback on your progress throughout the course.

What else do I need to know?

  • You do not need to bring anything as all materials will be provided.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another course with WEA or with another provider.
