The course is designed for those who wants to become independent cloths maker, or start your own business whether your are a beginner or you know sewing and need to improve your skill. this course will meet your needs. you will learn basic sewing techniques ,taking measurements, reading a commercial pattern, prepare and cut your fabrics and stitches it to professional standard. inserting zip, button whole, elastic, and so much more.

Course aim

To provide the opportunity for students to become independent to use the sewing machine , they will be encouraged to choose . and making one complete garment such as Kaboly, Kamees, Burka, or any other style. all levels are welcomed.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • How to use the sewing machien , threading, winiding the bobbin, and inserted in the machiens.and how to look after your own sewing machien clean it and oile it.
  • How to use the specialist and equipments safely ,using all the faunction in the sewing machien and over lock.Making button whole, insirting a zip, binding and stitching diffrent seams, heming, making darts.
  • How to choose and prepareing the fabric for cutting,following the grain line, fabric quantaties, when to use baias cutting.
  • Reading a commercial pattern, tracing, and lay out the pattern pieces and cutting the fabric.
  • Naming each pieace of the pattern,.follow the insturection to join the pieces together using suitable trimming and uing the overlock machien to finish the garment to a professional standared.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
