The aim is to develop and channel your writing ability, whether you writing for publication or as a hobby, for personal development All stages are included - beginners welcome. All forms are catered for, novels, poems, plays, memoirs and short stories. We will discuss many aspects such as publication guidelines, shaping short stores and writing modern poetry. There will be projects and discussion of students' work is in a friendly and constructive setting

Course aim

For writers at all stages - beginners welcome. To develop and channel writing skills in a constructive, friendly setting. Aims can be personal development or publication

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • No qualifications are required - just an interest in developing writing skills. The course is for all stages. Beginners are welcome

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Show development of my writing skills
  • Be aware of publication guidelines, should these be needed
  • Show development in assessing my own work
  • Have experimented in writing in different form

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be writing in your own time and bringing work for discussion

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Feedback will be in discussion of work by the tutor and also group discussion. Discussion of various topics will also give opportunities for feedback

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
