Impressionism and It's Multiple Facets

Ref: C2419512

As the Impressionists take over Tate Britain this winter, we will explore the multiple facets of this art movement. Back in the 1870s and 1880s, the Impressionist exhibitions gathered artists with a variety of styles and interests, such as Monet, Degas, Morisot, Caillebotte, Guillaumin, and Cézanne. For instance, while Monet was devoted to landscape painting, Degas preferred figure painting. This lecture will highlight the heterogeneity of the Impressionist group and shed the light on the originality of its key members. As a conclusion, we will discuss the unity of purpose that brought them together in the first place, and see that tensions existed between individual painters and the group.
