Black in Britain: Black Faces that Shaped Britain

Ref: C2419436

This course looks at the lives of some of the black people who have shaped the experience of black life in Britain. We will look at people who made an impact in history like the nurse Mary Seacole and the Chartist William Cuffay, through the political activist CLR James and judge Linda Dobbs, right up to the actor Idris Elba and make-up artist Pat McGrath. This is a companion course to last term’s in which we looked at the experience of being black in Britain over the 70 years since the Empire Windrush arrived from Jamaica.
