Textiles for the Outpost Shop - Decorative Techniques

This term we will be making zip pouches for the Outpost shop. In addition we will be producing designs and final art work for a commissioned piece for Peter Bedford's coffee shop at the Kingsland Hub. We will also be stretching and framing existing work in preparation for an exhibition of our work to be held later in the term.

Course aim

To identify and make decorative accessories that reach a professional and are able to be sold at the Outpost shop in Holloway Road.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • It's useful to have a basic understanding of the sewing machine.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Prepare work for an exhibition
  • Produce designs and art work for the coffee shop
  • Produce a decorative textile accessory to a professional standard
  • Analyse and evaluate own and others work
  • Maintain a professional standard in the work produced

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be asked to attend the private view for the exhibition, it's not compulsory however.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
