Textiles for the Outpost Shop - Working Towards an Exhibition

The course will explore some simple hand embroidery and expand knowledge of experimental techniques to embroider on the sewing machine. Students will produce small canvas based images on the theme of the environment. We will then develop simple designs to produce a range of machine and hand embroidered products to be sold in the Outpost shop.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to improve dexterity and further develop knowledge of machine and hand embroidery to maintain professional standards. It aims to give students the opportunity to liaise with the Outpost shop.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce designs exploring the theme of 'the environment'.
  • Make a hand and machine embroidered image on canvas from the theme of 'the environment'.
  • Produce textile accessories to a professional standard.
  • Analyse and evaluate own and others work.
  • Maintain a professional standard in the work produced.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • You will receive constant feedback and evaluation on a one to one basis.

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
