This exciting course will give students the opportunity to underpin knowledge and skills in using the sewing machine. Students will improve knowledge of colour, design and manipulating fabric through exploring the techniques of quilting and applique. The course strives to produce finished products that meet professional standards in order to supply the Outpost shop. There will be an opportunity to visit the Outpost shop to learn about current trends and the demands of the customer.

Pre enrolment and induction on 20th September 2017 from 10am till 1pm

Course aim

This course introduces students to a range of techniques that can be developed into soft furnishings and sold at the Outpost shop. It aims to improve design and sewing skills to a level that will reach professional standards.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an increasing understanding of colour and design.
  • Produce designs for quilted decorations and appliqued bookmarks.
  • Manipulate fabric to produce quilted decorations and fabric bookmarks for the Outpost shop.
  • Work collaboratively and with a client to meet professional standards.
  • Use a sewing machine with increasing confidence.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • You will receive constant, one to one, verbal feedback and evaluation as you work.

  • All materials will be provided
