Introduction to Printmaking

This exciting course offers students the opportunity to start to explore the printmaking process. Students will develop an understanding of colour and design and use different techniques to produce a range of hand printed Christmas cards for the Outpost shop. The course will start by exploring different ways to make a print and then to cut a lino block. Students will be expected to develop designs using Christmas imagery as the theme and to make experimental mono and lino prints.

Course aim

This course aims to introduce students to mono printing and to the lino printing process. It will also develop students understanding of colour and design in order to produce a range of hand printed Christmas cards for the Outpost shop.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce designs for Christmas cards.
  • Produce experimental monoprints
  • Produce lino print experiments
  • Produce lino printed Christmas cards.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will produce a number of designs and prints that will be stored carefully and reviewed at times throughout the course.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
