The Georgian Era: Britain, Europe and Empire

Ref: C2419111

The eighteenth century saw a consolidation of the British Empire in India and the West Indies, the loss of the American colonies and the gaining of new colonies in Australia. For much of the century Britain was involved in European wars. And in Scotland and Ireland discontent was never far below the surface. All these events fuelled political debate in Britain and would have important consequences for Britain's power, wealth and trade. The course examines some of the key events of the period, such as the American and French Revolutions and will include either a guided walk or a visit.
