Powertex is a Textile Hardening liquid that is non-toxic, water based, eco-friendly and can be used in a variety of ways to make sculptures, Jewellery, Art work on canvas, covering Journals and many other materials or objects. Your will learn how to use the product as well as varnishing and painting with pigment powders for finishing off your work. Powertex is weatherproof after 3 weeks so some of your work can be placed outside. ***Please note that Students are encouraged to arrive on time at 10 am each week to maximise the time. This product has a drying time and you will have unfinished work and not achieve your expectations.

Course aim

An introduction to Powertex Textile Hardener to use in recycling natural fabric and a variety of materials to create your own projects to take home.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make Jewellery
  • Make a sculpture
  • Cover a book
  • Use pigments and varnishes

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring a plastic apron, old cotton t shirts, an empty wine bottle, a glass jam jar. You may be asked to bring other items during the course that are things you probably have at home.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
