Come Craft With Us: Suitable for all levels. We will try many different crafts including: hand sewing, fabric flowers, printing and needle felting.

Course aim

To introduce learners to a range of crafts & techniques. To build their confidence in enjoying these crafts outside of the class and sharing what they have learned with others.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Develop craft skills and share these more confidently outside of the course session, e.g Fashion/craft show in May 2018
  • Engage confidently with group members and feel more confident in meeting/getting to know new people and getting more involved in my community e.g. By finding out more about local activities, joining other groups, volunteering etc.
  • Demonstrate and understand how to hand sew a pin cushion or fabric flower.
  • Demonstrate and understand how to create a Batique sample and make this in to a simple item; bag or cushion etc.
  • Demonstrate and understand how to use the needle felting technique

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation

  • In addition to enrolling in further courses, learners can pursue support and activity with other Leicester Ageing Together partners using information provided in class & via the tutor.
