Preparing to work in Health and Social Care

This course is to support you in the preparation to work in the health and social care sector. It will allow you to develop an awareness of the sector as a whole, as well as improving your communication skills. Whilst on the course you will explore different jobs associated with working in caring professions and develop both your personal and social skills.

Course aim

The course aims to teach you the basic skills and give you entry level knowledge required to work in health and social care.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand the values and principles of the caring profession.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Learn common instructions used in care homes, including appropriate vocabulary and note taking.
  • Understand confidentiality including safeguarding in adult social care settings.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • Nothing else is needed
