Course aim

This workshop will introduce absolute beginners to the acoustic guitar and is a taster for a 7 week beginner's acoustic guitar course due to start next term

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • An understanding of the key parts of an acoustic guitar.

  • What to look for when buying an acoustic guitar.
  • An introduction to playing an acoustic guitar.
  • The prerequisites necessary for the 7 week course that this workshop introduces you to.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Feedback will be provided where asked for. This is an introductory workshop and a precursor to the 7 week course planned for next term so the workshop is not as interactive as the course will be.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • You are welcome to bring your acoustic guitar if you own one and we will have a general Q&A session during the last hour of the workshop. Don't worry - you won't be expected to play your guitar during this workshop.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • This is a taster session for the 7 week course planned for next term at the Chesterfield WEA centre.
