Celebrating 70 Years of the NHS

Ref: C2339459

The National Health Service began after the Second World War and in July it will be 70 years old. This was a time of optimism. It was part of the Welfare State. By studying the origins of the NHS and the aims and objectives of the Labour Government we can see that it was a great success. However that very success created more problems. This course will look at pioneering attempts to look after the sick before 1948 and then go on to explain how the NHS was set up. We will examine the period post 1940s to see the journey the Health Service went on. The Spirit of '45 will also be used to look at the optimism of the people and whether the NHS has delivered all it set out to do. There will be time to discuss the challenges it faced especially in the first 30 years.
