A course to enable you to experience exercise in a safe environment to help improve movement, mobility, balance, posture and general wellbeing. Giving you a better understanding of the benefits of exercise and fitness, it will to help to promote a healthy lifestyle. We will cover The importance of warm-up before starting to exercise. Various stretches to benefit all parts of the body i.e. neck, back, shoulders, hips, legs. Various seated weight-bearing exercises eg leg lift, bicep curl The reasoning behind, and the health benefits of, the various stretches and movements will be discussed.

Course aim

To give students a better understanding of the benefits of exercise and fitness and enable them to experience exercise in a safe environment to help to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • work with an awareness of health and safety
  • identify the benefits of warm-up before starting to exercise
  • perform various body stretches
  • perform various weight bearing exercises
  • identify at least one thing they can do to work towards a healthy lifestyle

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • Nothing else is needed
