An introduction to various Microsoft Office 2010 programs as well as exploring some Windows 10 functions, creating and using a free email account and a basic introduction to Skype.

Course aim

For the absolute beginner or anyone wishing to revise/refresh their computer skills after an absence from IT technology, using Microsoft Office 2010 programs and Windows 10 Operating System.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a greater confidence in using a laptop with Windows 10 as its Operating System.
  • Access various Microsoft Office 2010 programs, for example, Word 2010, Publisher 2010 and The Edge (replaces Internet Explorer).
  • Using Windows 10 to create screen savers, use pictures to alter the desktop etc.
  • Introduction to Skype.
  • Creating a free email account and various email functions.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A series of tutor created resources that require participation from the learner. Class discussions will be encouraged.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • WEA provide laptops with Windows 10 as its Operating System.

Enrolment Conditions

You can enrol online if you meet all of the following requirements:

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits

  • have a valid email address
  • have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2017
