Creative Writing Workshop

This day school aims to provide new learners and returners with an example of workshop material available in the Autumn course. To those new to creative writing it aims to create a day where they can try exercises and decide if creative writing is for them. Taught by a published poet and short fiction writer, who also writes creative writing guides, it provides a day's writing exercises and discussion for new and established writers to have fun with.

Course aim

This day school aims to demonstrate to returners and new students the type of workshop activity that will be available in the Autumn course.

  • Anyone who wants to give creative writing a go.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Try new skills and techniques.
  • Meet new and returning learners, and see if creative writing is for you.
  • Take part in discussions on skills.
  • Learn some new writing skills via workshop techniques.
  • write and enjoy the day.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • pen, paper, folder, and a writer's notebook, whatever form this may take.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
