The Archaeology of Iron Age Leicestershire

What was it like to live in Leicestershire during the Iron Age? Who were the people who lived here and what happened to them? This course aims to answer these questions in this introduction to the archaeology of Iron Age Leicestershire. A visit to the nationally important Hallaton Hoard exhibition at Harborough Museum may be included subject to confirmation.

Course aim

This course aims to provide an introduction to the archaeology of Iron Age Leicestershire.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify when the Iron Age period began and ended in England
  • List at least three Iron Age sites in Leicestershire
  • List at least three aspects of what life was like in Iron Age Leicestershire
  • Discuss at least three aspects of what life was like in Iron Age Leicestershire

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Learners will require a notepad and pen. You may also find it helpful to have a wallet folder to store handouts and own notes. Essential reading will be provided.
