Life Drawing for Beginners There will be general life drawing session designed to support students understanding of the human body and demystify the process of drawing. Both a nude & clothed human figure will be drawn with pencil, pen and brush - considering, gesture, style, line, grace and energy. Students will be offered supportive tuition to develop drawing skills and explore the human form. Come and be part of our friendly creative group.

Course aim

Discover the important role that drawing can play in developing creativity by exploring the human form clothed or nude, using a range of media We will also consider the work of artists from a range of cultures.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • You will need to talk to a member of staff and do a short activity to make sure the course is right for you. For more information and to book an appointment please call 0300 303 3464
  • Please be aware that we will be drawing the nude figure. This is not a practice some cultures would feel comfortable with.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify how artists from a range of cultures have explored the human form, both nude and clothed .
  • By the end of the course I will be able to understand, explore, and continue to discover the important role that drawing can play in developing personal creativity.
  • By the end of the course I will be able to make a positive contribution to my own anothers health and wellbeing by discussing my work with others.
  • By the end of the course I will be able to mindfully use drawing as a way of relaxing.
  • By the end of the course I will be able to feel more confident drawing the human form.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • The tutor will send learning resources to you via the internet, and this will offer the opportunity for self development .

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • The tutor will photograph your work and give written feedback along, verbal comments and demonstrations.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Consider reading " The Body Photoworks of the Human Form" by William A Ewing

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
