This course will explore the development & significance of colour through different mediums & periods of art.

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Contribute to constructive discussion about he material being studied
  • Discuss & analyse a wide range of example of paintings
  • Understand how colour has developed in terms of different mediums & been used by artists at different periods of time
  • Realise how significant colour is & how we respond to it in art
  • Consider different ways in which artists have interpreted & conveyed colour

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A notebook & pen may be of use for making notes

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • A list of useful background reading will be provided during the course
