Students will have many opportunities to develop their knowledge and understanding of French through discussion of a wide variety of topics, chosen by members of the group. Everyone will be supported and encouraged to ask questions, seek clarification and express their opinions in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere.

Have fun learning French in an informal setting. This course will be perfect if you are considering holidaying in France and want to brush up on your French

Course aim

To build on previous knowledge of French, however rusty; explore a variety of topics; plug gaps in vocabulary and grammar so that students become more confident French speakers.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Previous knowledge gained at school or from living or holidaying in a French-speaking country.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Discuss and debate a variety of topics in French.
  • Develop the language needed to express opinions.
  • Speak everyday French with confidence.
  • Use correct grammar and appropriate vocabulary.
  • Speak French with a more authentic French accent.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • Please bring with you a list of topics you would like the group to explore and also details of any points of language you would like to practice.
