Sewing & Mixed Crafts

This course is available to both beginners to sewing and crafts and those with existing skills looking to develop. We will learn a range of crafts including, felting, printing and embroidery which will be used to create a number of finished craft items of choice for example, bags, zip purses, canvas art and cushions.

Course aim

You will be given a guide at the beginning of the course as to what projects you will be working on each week. You will be told what to bring each week some materials are available to buy from the tutor.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recycling Fabric scrap with bondaweb and felt.
  • Painting on silk.
  • Know a range of hand and machine embroidery stitches
  • To create interesting surface decoration on fabric
  • Develop creative skills to make craft items

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
