On this course students will learn how to design and decorate wedding and celebration cakes (using a dummy cake) by covering a cake with different icings, making different flowers ie roses, gerberas, lilies, orchids, blossoms etc., how to make frills, swags and lace, how to stack cakes using dowelling and arranging decorations on to the cake, some painting on the cake and should we try a naked cake!!!

Course aim

Designing and decorating a multi-tiered wedding and celebration cakes. Traditional, contemporary and vintage style. The main purpose is how to decorate a wedding cake for family, friends starting own business.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students should have some basic knowledge in cake decorating.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Decorate and support a multi-tiered cake in a variety of icing styles.
  • Create and apply swags and frills.
  • Make lace decoration using lace mats
  • Make a range of flowers
  • Arrange the decoration to best effect.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Students will need to bring their own materials and equipment, The cost for the duration of the course will be about £50 to £60 depends where the items are bought from
