This course is intended to improve students’ knowledge of customs and practices in the UK. Sessions with a range of activities will help students understand: Health topics such as getting the healthcare and making an appointment for the optician. Everyday activities such as housing and some related problems. Information about employability topic such as looking for work, work as a volunteer in the charity shops and applying for work.

Course aim

The course aims to teach students about living in Leicester and the UK.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To understand the importance of voluntary work and how it can be effective when they are looking for work.
  • To develop learners’ ability to talk about themselves in a positive way
  • To understand key vocabulary on the topic of renting such as tenant, landlord, rent, deposit etc.
  • To develop learners’ vocabulary for talking about optician
  • To understand vocabulary to describe personal qualities and skills

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • Nothing else is needed
