Improve your skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, presentation, the internet and email. Open to all. Qualifications range from EDCC (Electronic Digital Computer Competency) for the beginner to OCR ITQ levels 1 and 2 (for improvers).

Course aim

The aim of the course is to learn more about computers and improve skills. The course offers a range of national qualifications suitable for the absolute beginner and/or the intermediate learner.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate increased confidence and skills in using a computer.
  • Apply skills/knowledge acquired to pass a module of your choice.
  • Achieve a full award (if appropriate).
  • Achieve an EDCC or nationally recognised OCR ITQ qualification or both.
  • Learn IT skills that will assist in moving on to volunteering or employment.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Learners work through resources designed to cover the criteria for EDCC (beginners and improvers) or OCR ITQ levels 1 and 2. Learners work on IT subjects of their own choosing and work at their own pace.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • Learners working towards a qualification will complete a series of practice papers which will be assessed by the tutor and verbal as well as written feedback will be given.

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
