Advanced Asian Dressmaking

Students will measure themselves, apply these to a paper pattern, with all relevant signs and symbols and then with the help of this pattern create an actual salwar from material; Both cutting and assembling at advance level with the assistance of their samples. Also learners will be able to use the provided overlocker to make their seams neater and more presentable. Pressing and ironing methods will be used accurately and appropriately before these items will go in their portfolios and also an exhibition will be held as an opportunity for them to sell these items on.

Course aim

Students will be able to complete an Ali Baba Salwar, Patyala Salwar, Somasa Salwar with decorative different styles of embroidered, piped and straight poncha patterns.

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Making salwar of your own choice
  • Ali Baba salwar
  • Dotti Salwar
  • Somosa Salwar
  • Seams and stitches

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • • Material • Interfacing • Paper pattern • Dress Making accessories (scissors, measuring tape, ruler, thimble, picker, tailoring pins etc …)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
