Students will be introduced to the world of curtains in this course for beginners and how to shop, measure and produce a pair of blinds for advanced students. From pencil pleats to goblet style curtains this course offers a variety of options to choose from and enables individuals to be able to create their very own curtains and for advanced they can create their own lamp shade also.

Course aim

Different samples of curtains, such as: Pencil pleat, goblet, triple pleat etc … This is for beginners. For advanced they will be making sample lamp shades and a lamp shade of their choice.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Making meters for curtains
  • Measuring how to do a window
  • Making three samples for curtain 1.Pencil pleat 2. Triple pleat 3. Goblet Pleat
  • Measuring cutting for a curtain and applying lining
  • Applying curtain tape

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A list will be provided on the enrolment day.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
