A general course for writers wishing to commit to regular writing sessions across a variety of disciplines and to improve writing through learning the craft and feeding back to others in the group.

Course aim

An enjoyable and energetic class which aims to get learners to write each week with exercises in class and assignments set for doing at home. We will cover a range of areas including writing fiction, short stories, poems, life writing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Respond to creative writing exercises in class
  • Feel more confident writing and sharing my work
  • Feel like a member of the group
  • Show work I have done at home

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring something to write on and with.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
