Title: Art School Basics or Draw a Line and Unwind (health and well being) Start date: of December 2017 The aim of this course is to demystify the process of drawing for all by learning how to use scale, tone, mark making, composition and perspective. The course is designed for total beginners, it seeks to equip students with a working knowledge of a range of art school approaches to picture making. We will use and explore found objects, still life, at least two sessions drawing the nude figure and portraits during this course.

Course aim

Title : Art School Basics or Draw a Line and Unwind (health and well being) This course is designed to introduce art school basics through the process of drawing by looking at the nude figure and still life subjects.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand and use scale, proportion, composition, and perspective when looking at the human form or still life subject.
  • By using tone and mark-making students will learn to apply their knowledge of a range of art school approaches to picture making.
  • By looking at "negative shapes" within portraits and the human form learners will begin to understand basic anatomy .
  • By communicating with the tutor and other learners will enable students to understand their own creative processes. health and well being
  • By engaging with creative processes and learning about how artists engage with different cultures will support positive enjoyment, health and well being.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • Often research suggestions will be chosen to support the needs and interests of individual learners. By agreement with all learners supportive learning materials will be sent by email ,to foster and support personal development .

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • A full list of materials needed for this course will be supplied at the start of the first teaching session and agreed with learners .

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
