Day School: Painting on silk

This workshop will introduce you to the beautiful art of painting on silk. Learn techniques such as serti, salt, wet-in-wet and more to produce your own unique pieces. It is fun, fabulous, easy and no previous experience in painting is required. The results produced can be made into small items, a picture to frame or why not make a scarf?

Course aim

To teach basic techniques of silk painting and produce bright, colourful silk pieces to take away. These can be used to make a small item, picture or cushion cover

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Paint unique patterns on silk
  • Use techniques such as salt, serti and tie dye methods
  • Mix colours
  • Steam fix the resulting painted pieces
  • Go home wearing your own, unique scarf!

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A small charge will apply if you want to make a scarf
