Suitable for the complete beginner just getting started with computers as well as those with some basic experience wanting to refresh and extend their skills and explore other applications and uses of computers. Covering the popular Microsoft Office programmes and such options as using the internet or working with audio or video.

Course aim

For beginners and improvers using computers and digital media, to provide students with an essential understanding of how to use the Internet and E-mail safely and securely and develop a range of Information technology user skills.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Acquire/develop familiarity with a PC keyboard and mouse.
  • Complete and submit forms online. Manage folders and files.
  • Create an E-mail account: send and receive E-mail communications, including file sharing.
  • Learn about online safety (Use the Net safely).
  • Navigate the World Wide Web safely and perform searches.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
