Improvers Spanish

Ideal for those with basic knowledge of Spanish who are keen to review and extend their language skills in a relaxed atmosphere. Learners will have the opportunity to listen to and practise expressions and phrases in context and to develop the confidence to communicate in a variety of scenarios whilst increasing their understanding of Spanish grammar and consolidating any previous learning. Alongside this, learners will also have the opportunity to learn more general information about Spanish culture and lifestyle.

Course aim

To provide a further introduction to Spanish grammar and expressions and phrases, useful in everyday and holiday situations, and to develop the confidence to communicate effectively in a variety of scenarios.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • People with knowledge of basic Spanish vocabulary and some understanding of using the present tense

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how to form and use present and past tenses of some common verbs.
  • Exchange information about myself and others in present and past tenses.
  • Discuss preferences re holidays and recount past holidays and outings.
  • Discuss different types of holiday accommodation.
  • Ask for directions, sightseeing and tourist information

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be relevant homework exercises where appropriate. The tutor will ensure you are making progress through monitoring role-play and other practical activities.

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • You will need to bring an English/Spanish dictionary and own writing materials. Handouts and worksheets will be provided.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • A quick look through and revision of any previous learning would be helpful. The tutor will provide information of any reading, Internet sites or Apps during the course.

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits
