Intermediate French

Gain more confidence and knowledge in French language communication. Develop your skills in expressing different points of view and using present, past and future tenses in everyday life situations; and improve your reading and understanding of written texts. Explore French culture events or traditions.

Course aim

To develop communication in everyday situations using more complex sentences and structures (past, present and futures time-frames); increase confidence and fluency in speaking, listening, reading and writing; increase knowledge of French culture.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Two years’ previous study or equivalent experience of the language required

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • use the language relating to a range of familiar matters such as describing a person (physically and personality)
  • use a range of tenses: present, future, past tenses with more confidence
  • answer unprepared questions in a conversation
  • listen and understand longer passages, e.g. explanation of a favourite pastime
  • read and understand longer texts, e.g. article of magazine about marriage

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing anticipated, but if there is anything else, it will be discussed in class.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits

  • have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2017
