The Development of More Genres in Art

Ref: C2338095

This course will explore the development of some of the main Genres in Art - domestic genre scenes, urban scapes, religious & history painting, with examples from the Renaissance to the 20th century, & placing them within the context of the other genres (portrait, landscape, still-life, nudes). As well as comparing & contrasting works to the styles of different periods of Art chronologically, examples will be related to the socio-historical context in which they were produced - particularly regarding the reception of works within different periods & circumstances (eg. nudes). The different reasons for the production of the paintings within different periods will be taken into account. Fully illustrated with discussion. This course will compliment the previous course on 'Exploring the Development of Genres' but is also intended as a stand alone course for anyone who hasn't attended the previous one.
