Creative Christmas Crafts

The course will introduce students to a variety of crafting skills and resources which will be used to create a wonderful selection of festive cards, crackers, decorations and other seasonal items. Students will be encouraged to draw inspiration from both vintage and contemporary resources provided by the tutor. Activities will include the following: • Producing a festive Victorian greeting card • Creating decorations from natural materials including twigs and cones • Creating sparkly 2D and 3D tree decorations • Making small gifts using card, wool, felt, modelling materials and more • Decorating a wood candle holder and hanging decoration • Creating a contemporary ‘pop-up’ seasonal card • Crafting festive novelty gift boxes using folding techniques • Producing large and small creative Christmas crackers

Course aim

A Christmas Craft Class for students of all abilities. Have fun using a variety of materials and techniques to create your own seasonal cards, gift boxes, crackers, decorations and small presents.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • The course is suitable for both beginners and experienced crafters. Everyone is welcome.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce both a traditional and contemporary style seasonal card using a variety of crafting techniques
  • Create two tree decorations using readily available resources including recyclable materials
  • Identify three crafting techniques which can be used to make novelty gift boxes and small presents
  • Know where to access a variety of material and resources
  • Produce a traditional and contemporary style cracker

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Feedback will be informal and friendly and you will be encouraged to discuss and share ideas

What else do I need to know?

  • The tutor can provide all equipment and resources for a cost of £2.00 per session payable on the day. Everything that students make can be taken home. There is a small café on site at the museum and you may like to bring some money for a drink
