This course introduces students to various crafts and techniques, which can be used to upcycle every day objects into affordable, unique homemade gifts ready for the holiday season. Transform an ordinary jam jar into a beautiful candle holder or an old shoe box into a funky new storage container. As well as having the opportunity to create personalised gifts for each of their friends and families, students will also learn how to create a collection of cards and gift ideas by ammending and repositioning their own designs. A perfect course for those interested in starting crafty Christmas early!

Course aim

This course introduces students to various crafts and techniques which can be used to create affordable, homemade gifts for the holiday season.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create own, unique designs to decorate every day objects and cards to be given as gifts.
  • Learn various techniques used to upcycle every day household objects into unique gifts for friends and family.
  • Learn how to ammend and reposition your designs to create your own, unique collections of gifts and cards.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • A quick and simple learning log will be provided, for you to mark your progress after each session.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Students will be encouraged to find or save any unwanted greetings cards to be recycled during the last session. Details of this will be given the students during the course.
