This course will teach you how to use the sewing machine including; threading the machine and how to use the different stitches. For those who have existing sewing skills you will learn how to make more advanced sewing projects and develop your previous skills and knowledge. You will learn lovely decorative techniques including appliqué and machine embroidery. Once you have mastered the basics you will progress on to make a reversible bag, appliquéd cushion and have individual project time to develop your skills.
Course aim
This course is for beginners to sewing and those with existing skills. You will learn how to thread up and use the sewing machine and to add to and improve upon existing skills.

- No skills or experience needed
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Thread up and use a sewing machine.
- Learn how to sew and finish seams and hemming.
- Put in zip.
- To make a bag and a cushion.
- To work on an individual project such as a dressmaking or home accessories project.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
- There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
