Reversible Quilting

This course is designed to teach students various types and sizes of quilt blocks e.g flying geese - pinwheels - star blocks -attic window, paper piecing. As well as learning free motion quilting.

Course aim

To teach students to understand the different styles of quilting blocks, free motion quilting and fabric journals.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • How use a rotary cutter to get the most out of your fabric
  • Choose fabric appropriate to the project
  • learn the how to make quilting blocks
  • learn how to use special feet on the sewing machine for quilting e.g a walking foot - an open toed foot/darning foot
  • learn how to free motion quilt by dropping the feed dogs on the sewing machine

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • If the students are confident and have sewing machines at home they can carry on with their project in their spare time.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
