Ref: C2337855

If you have an interest in plants and in drawing and painting, then this class is for you. You will focus initially on drawing and then move on to developing your watercolour skills. You will be taught the principles of drawing and painting in watercolour and encouraged to develop them at your own pace and in your own style.

Course aim

To provide you with general instruction and the skills necessary to be able to both draw and paint botanical subjects with watercolour and to help you to apply the skills you learn in your own painting.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • produce a competent drawing of my subject
  • use watercolour in different ways
  • mix and use colour creatively
  • evaluate and critique my own work

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • You will be required to bring your own materials and equipment. You will also need to bring your own subject matter with weekly guidance from the tutor. A materials list can be obtained from the WEA office in Derby.
