This illustrated talk will explore the canal, both past and present together with the future plans for its’ use. The day school will also look at the many advantages of a restored canal, particularly in the line of economic benefits and the huge beneficial effect it has on nature in the area.

Course aim

The aim of this day school is for students to explore the canal's history, discover future plans for its’ use and the advantages of a restored canal.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain and detail the the early days of the canal
  • Describe the functions of the canal, both past and present
  • Explain and describe the advantages of a restored canal, particularly in the line of economic benefits and the huge beneficial effect it has on nature in the area

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
