A 'hands-on' art & craft course exploring a range of techniques each week to create a selection of art pieces. Each week a different style taught will be taught and the range of techniques include: Collage work - including cutting, tearing and sticking of paper and other materials to create a piece of work from a photo or existing college piece. This also includes a small group project: Producing a Hanging banner - collaging letters that have been cut out and decorated by the students. -Drawing, Pastel and Pen & Ink illustration - using pencils and fibre tipped pens to re-create a subject from a photograph or still-life object. -Colouring - colouring a range of patterned outlines in coloured pens -Basic painting in Watercolour and Acrylic onto watercolour paper and small canvasses (all provided) -Oil and Chalk pastel artwork -Ribbon and String weaving - using strips of paper painted by the students and coloured string / wool woven through slits / holes on a piece of painted card

Course aim

To provide a hands-on practical art and craft course using a range of techniques and styles during each session with a view to promoting self esteem, independence and choice

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Do a basic drawing in pencil or pen and Ink
  • Recreate a piece of work using collage effect
  • Weave a piece of painted card using string and painted ribbon strips
  • Cut out and decorate a range of letters and shapes - eg. flowers, wavy lines, stars
  • Do a basic painting on small canvas using Acrylic paints

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
