Course aim
This course aims to introduce learners to some basic skills in British Sign Language, to communicate with Deaf people in everyday life and situations.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Demonstrate simple, basic information presented in British Sign Language
- Sign numbers and finger spell the alphabet.
- Provide simple, basic information of a personal, social and work related nature
- Demonstrate, asking and answering simple questions about personal, social and work related situations.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
What else do I need to know?
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
- It would be useful to have a notepad and pen for any notes you wish to take
