Using a Computer or Device is a course to help train and develop individuals in the use of computers and the benefits that the digital world can bring. Delivered in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, this short course is a great starting point to help navigate around a computer or tablet.

All students will be referred onto this courses by JCP and all students will be in receipt of a means tested benefit.
Course aim
Covering the basic skills required to use a computer, laptop or digital device, to use the keyboard, mouse, desktop icons, web browsers, email and how to stay safe online.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Demonstrate the basics of a computer system; navigate around the computer using a mouse or keyboard
- Create a word document and save this in an organised way.
- List key websites that are of use, demonstrate how to access the sites effectively. Staying safe online
- Log into an email account, compose and receive an email with and without attachments.
- Access a number of amenity and governmental websites
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
What else do I need to know?
- Laptops will be provided but it is best to use your own device. Please bring a pen and paper.
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No reading is required but you can look in your library or buy either "Web User" or "Computer Active."
