Colourful, contentious, and considered highly subversive, heresy is interwined with the history of Christianity. We will consider three groups of religious dissent in the medieval period including the Waldensians, Lollards, and Hussites. We will look at their emergence, beliefs, practices, and experiences of those communities between the years 1100-1500

Course aim

The main purpose of the course is to provide a brief overview of medieval heresy from c.1100-c1500. It will focus on the beliefs, experiences of the Waldensians, Lollards and Hussites,

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe the causes and contexts for each of these three communities
  • Identify the main beliefs of each of the three groups of religious dissent
  • Investigate the experiences of these three communities

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
