A lovely course which will show you how to make botanically correct flowers and plants from sugar. These will enhance your cakes etc and also look amazing just as a display. You will learn how to make the flowers and foliage, how to put them together, and how to display them. This will include things like Corsage, wedding bouquet, plants and display pieces. You will be astounded at what can be achieved. The course is designed to allow you have fun, whilst earning an amazing skill.
Course aim
To provide an introduction to sugar flowers and plants of all seasons.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
- This course is open to anyone.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Work with flower paste
- Colour paste
- Demonstrate taping.
- Demonstrate wiring
- Make various flowers following instruction
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
- You may be asked to complete some work at home in order for you to be able to put that together the following week
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
- A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
- You will be able to keep a tracking sheet of skills provided by the tutor so that you can mark of a skill as you complete it
What else do I need to know?
- Some basic equipment is needed for this course. Your tutor will help with this. Flower paste is needed, wires and basic kit
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
