Accurate and interesting CVs, covering letters and application forms are a key part of the job hunting process. This course will help you to design an appropriate CV and covering letter for the purpose of applying for jobs. You will be assisted in developing an understanding of what employers are looking for in an application form and to apply these to a job application form.

Course aim

This course aims to help you to compile a CV and covering letter and complete application forms. You will be helped to design your CV and covering letter to give you the best chance of getting a positive response from possible employers.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • 1. Either as part of the group or with your tutor 1 to 1, discuss what things make a good, effective CV, covering letter and application form.
  • 2. Design a CV for use in job hunting
  • 3. Write a covering letter for use in job hunting.
  • 4. Complete an application form for a job.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • Nothing else is needed

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
