Do you find watercolour painting a challenge? Learn how to master this medium and brush up your skills with this 10 week course. We will look at techniques and materials you need, as well as how to plan a great picture. Individual help will be given both for your own projects and those suggested by the tutor. Come and learn in a friendly atmosphere ! All levels of ability are welcome. Bring the materials you have and find out how to achieve a satisfying result.

Course aim

To help students achieve success in watercolour by a planned approach. We will look at the techniques needed, and how to find inspiration.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • How to select the right materials for you
  • How to plan a painting using the principles of composition
  • Investigate techniques used in watercolour painting
  • Develop your observational skills
  • Explore sources for inspiration

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Bring a basic selection of watercolour paints, a large, medium and small brush and watercolour paper and waterpot. Kitchen towel for wiping brushes
