Films can be incredibly powerful both to watch and be involved in. The WEA has designed this course to use the key aspects of film making to help develop confidence, self-awareness skills and general wellbeing. On this course you will explore how to use a camera or digital device to create short films. You will learn how to create a storyboard and setup equipment, record and playback digital video.

Course aim

The aim of the course is to gently explore self-awareness, confidence and self-esteem by making short films, on a set theme, using students' shared personal experiences

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • Service users of Volunteering Matters - The Loop It will be useful to have attended the "My Video Diary Taster"

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • 1. Set up video equipment. 2. Record and playback short films
  • Create a video diary
  • Develop the self-confidence to express thoughts and ideas to others
  • Set personal challenges to enhance lifestyle and wellbeing
  • Work collaboratively with others as part of a small team

How will I be taught?

  • • You will take part in a range of different activities with your tutor and the other students in your class • Activities may include tutor presentation, small group work, working in pairs, class discussions, short tasks and research.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
